Based in Columbus, Ohio and established in 2006, Columbus Kickboxing Arnis (CKA) focuses on self-improvement through martial arts fitness, reality-based self defense and combative competitiveness. CKA has also become host to networking opportunities for business professionals in engineering, real estate, information technology and construction who value wellness and fitness and enjoy martial arts.
Above all, we also believe in training safely. Most of the people who train at CKA have to go home to their families after practice and show up for their full time job the following morning.

Jizaikan Kage Dojo Welcomes CKA
On Saturday, May 15th Jizaikan Kage Dojo of Gahanna, Ohio hosted its first Filipino Martial Arts class. The class, lead by CKA's Guro Elmann Cabotage focused primarily focused on edged weapon defense and tactics. The Kage Dojo features Ninjitsu, reality-based martial arts, weapons training and self-development. We were honored by the invitation to train and share our knowledge with members of Kage Dojo who were renowned martial artists in their own right, many of whom came to our class with a half empty cup yet had 8 plus years of training in Martial Arts. While some consider Martial Arts a necessity for some, learning is an art at Kage Dojo, and excellence is a passion. I am thankful to Master Michael Francis for the opportunity to share.
What are Filipino Martial Arts?
The basis of our training is Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) and Western Boxing. FMA is also known as Arnis, Escrima or Kali in the Phillipines. The sweet sciences of Boxing and FMA are compatible in footwork, defense, striking and counter philosophy. As training systems, both offer similar one-on-one mitt training and various cardio-intensive drills which are essential to building a fighter’s accuracy and rhythm. The rounds of sparring are a blast and will get you in great shape.
Having reached the shores of the United States and being introduced to the country’s martial arts mainstream as early as the 1960’s, FMA has become the choice martial art of military and law enforcement communities because of its effective and realistic approach to self-defense. It was only a matter of time until FMA eventually found its way into civilian communities because it is exciting, dynamic and lots of fun. FMA specializes in fighting with weaponry and self defense against weapon attacks. An individual’s risk of serious injury or fatality increases with longer fights. Therefore, FMA is also focused on ending physical confrontations swiftly.
